| Event Overview - 2008 Government Technologies Conference and ExpoThe 2008 Government Technologies Conference and Expo explores innovative information technologies utilized to serve citizens better. As one of Canada's most important and growing annual events for the Canadian public sector IT community, the Government Technologies Conference and Expo addresses specific Government issues and challenges, and presents new, practical solutions developed to solve the technological challenges of the public sector. Government must adopt and implement new technologies to deliver key services to citizens, in response to the growing demand for greater accessibility and accountability by the public. Currently, most households in Canada use the Internet and other technologies to access and obtain public sector services, including Government information (33%), education/training (25%) or Health information (35%). Furthermore, according to Industry Canada, the estimated growth of the global e-commerce market is projected at $6.5 trillion by 2006, and Canada's online sales revenue rose to $28.3 billion in 2004, up over 40% from $18.9 billion in 2003. Therefore, e-commerce initiatives and solutions are a lucrative and valuable investment for Governments and both the public and private sectors. The Government Technologies Conference and Expo facilitates the discovery and adoption of such technologies that ensure exceptional service delivery. As an established IT event, it attracts key IT professionals, developers, architects and engineers, to showcase their solutions to all members of the public sector, and provide a better level of service to all Canadian citizens.
